Privacy Policy

GatherUp ("we", "us") helps you discover and join in-person meetups.
Accounts are available only to people aged 18 and over. This policy
explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it
with, and the choices you have. By creating an account or using
GatherUp you agree to this policy.
1. Information we collect

Account information. Your name, email address,
password (stored as a salted hash, never in plain text), and an
optional profile photo.

Profile details. The city you choose, age range,
languages, and the activity interests you select. You can change
these at any time from the Profile screen.

Activity data. Events you create, join, or cancel,
and the messages you send in event chat rooms.

Payment confirmation data. Paid events are in-person
experiences you pay for directly to the host via InstaPay; GatherUp
does not process the payment. To confirm your seat, you upload a
screenshot of your InstaPay transfer, which may include your name,
your InstaPay handle, the amount, and a transaction reference. The
host and our moderators review it only to verify the booking. We do
not collect or store your full bank account number or card details.

Device and diagnostic data. A push notification
token (so we can deliver booking and chat alerts), the device
operating system, app version, and basic crash logs for stability.

Approximate location. When you grant permission, we
show events near you. We do not record your continuous location.
2. How we use your information
- To create and secure your account.

To match you with relevant events nearby based on your interests,
languages, and city.

To deliver booking, chat, and safety notifications via Apple Push
Notification service and Google Firebase Cloud Messaging.

To verify payment for paid in-person events by reviewing the InstaPay
confirmation screenshot you upload.
- To investigate abuse and keep the community safe.

To improve the app — for example, by understanding which features
are used most.
We do not sell your personal information.
3. Sharing
Other GatherUp users see:
- Your name, profile photo, city, and interests when you join an event.
- The messages you post in shared event chats.
When you book a paid event, the host of that event and our moderators
can see the InstaPay confirmation screenshot you upload, solely to verify
your payment. It is not shown to other attendees.
We work with trusted infrastructure providers — hosting, push delivery, error reporting — under data-processing agreements. We never share your information for advertising.
4. Data retention
We keep your account information for as long as the account exists. If
you delete your account from Profile → Settings → Delete account,
we permanently remove your profile, bookings, payment confirmation
screenshots, and messages within 30 days. Some records may be retained
longer where required by law.
5. Your choices
- Edit your profile or remove your photo at any time from Profile → Edit.
- Disable notifications in iOS Settings → GatherUp → Notifications.
- Delete your account from Profile → Settings → Delete account.

Request a copy of your data, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete
it by emailing
Support@gatherup.site.
6. Children
GatherUp is for adults 18 and older only. It is not directed to anyone
under 18, and we do not knowingly collect data from children. If you
believe someone under 18 has signed up, contact us and we will remove
the account.
7. Security
We protect your data in transit with HTTPS and at rest with industry
standard encryption. No system is perfectly secure — please use a
unique password and notify us immediately if you suspect unauthorised
access.
8. International transfers
GatherUp is built and operated by a small team. Our infrastructure may
process your data in regions outside your home country (for example,
the European Union or the United States). By using GatherUp you
consent to this transfer.
9. Changes to this policy
If we materially change this policy we will update the date above and,
for significant changes, notify you in the app or by email before the
change takes effect.
